Personal Statement

I believe we were born with unique gifts and talents, and self-love and acceptance that serve us to grow and thrive in life. Our self-concept, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by generational, family, and cultural values and beliefs. When these values and beliefs do not align with one’s authentic self and/or are perceived as negative, abusive, or dysfunctional, children “adapt” their thoughts, feelings, and behavior to function in their environment and to get their needs met. These “adaptations” are often perceived as negative, disconnect us from our authentic self, and cause conflict in our relationship with ourselves and others.

I offer an unconditional accepting, non-judgmental space for you to address, explore, and resolve the issues you came to therapy with. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, relational, strength-based, and solution focused. I believe everyone has the innate wisdom and capacity to address the issues they came to therapy with, and it is my role to empower you to identify and access your strengths, your goals, and “adaptations” to being your authentic self. I follow your lead in addressing the issues that are important to you. We, in collaboration, will create your treatment plan/goals to address your individual and/or family needs.

I utilize treatment modalities of psychoeducation, family systems, cognitive-behavioral therapy, expressive arts, movement therapy, motivational interviewing, mind-body connection, and mindfulness practices. In addition, for children, I utilize Play Therapy, and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. (TF-CBT). Play therapy allows children to speak freely and safely through toys and play themes, while learning ways to regulate their emotions, thoughts, and behavior and to develop coping skills. TF-CBT is an evidenced based treatment to help children and adolescents recover after experiencing trauma.

Ready to take the first step toward recovery?

Dr. Anna Kielak, DNP, ARNP

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Personal Statement
I believe that mental health conditions can be compared to physical injuries. For example, when you sprain your ankle, you need to go to see a specialist. She/he will prescribe you some anti-inflammatory medications – maybe Ibuprofen and some Cortisone shots. Then you will need to attend physical therapy (PT). If you work hard during your PT appointments, your ankle will get better, and you will need less medication. The same can be said about mental health disorders. In the beginning you will need some psychiatric medications to help with emergent or severe problems but then psychotherapy will help you sustain and maintain a balance. I will help with the medication portion of treatment and a team of Psychologists and Counselors will provide other comprehensive services. Human beings have an overwhelming capacity to heal, and effective healing and personal growth are achieved from a continuous partnership between clients and their healthcare providers. I am here to facilitate your recovery by providing knowledge about new research in the field of neuroscience, medications and expanded understanding of mental disorders. All that while making sure that the treatment is right for you.
